18 February 2008 - Strabane woman convicted of benefit fraud

A woman was convicted at Strabane Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Kathleen Maxwell (54), of Peacock Road, Sion Mills, claimed Income Support totalling £3,745 while failing to declare she had capital. She was given a two month prison sentence suspended for one year and fined £300.

She will also have to repay the money she wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 61 the number of successful convictions so far in 2008.
