Minister Ritchie announces significant milestone on Eden street car park development
Monday, 25 February 2008The Minister for Social Development, Margaret Ritchie, today announced the preferred developer selection process for the Eden Street development scheme in Enniskillen.
The Minister commented that: “It is very satisfying to have reached this stage in the process and to have four schemes of such high quality from which to select the preferred developer.”
Consultants are working on a selection process prioritising quality of design, suitability of use and deliverability as the key attributes of the scheme.
The development of the Eden Street car park was identified in the Integrated Development Strategy for Enniskillen prepared by Fermanagh District Council, following wide consultation with the community. It is envisaged that the project will be a mix of town centre uses which will improve the viability and vitality of the town centre, and will include provision for the existing and additional car parking spaces.
It is anticipated that the preferred scheme will be announced in summer of this year.
Notes to Editors:
- The Eden Street Comprehensive Development Scheme was published by the Department for Social Development in 2005 when developers were invited to submit proposals for the redevelopment of the Eden Street car park in Enniskillen.
- From the schemes submitted, four were shortlisted for detailed consideration. Specialist consultants appointed by DSD are currently engaged on a rigorous selection process which will lead to the designation of a preferred developer.
- The department will subsequently work with the preferred developer to finalise proposals.
