National postal dispute and benefit payments advice

Monday, 30 July 2007

The Social Security Agency today issued advice to customers whose benefit payments may be affected by the ongoing national postal dispute.

Anyone who normally receives their benefit payment directly into their bank account or post office card account will be unaffected and will continue to receive their payment as normal. 96% of Agency customers already receive their payment by this means.

Customers who receive their benefit payment by cheque through the post and would normally expect to receive their next payment on or after Wednesday 1 August should arrange to collect their payment direct from their nearest Post Office. This may not necessarily be the Post Office they normally use. Anyone who is unsure of their nearest Post Office should telephone their benefit paying Branch for advice.

Customers must ensure that they bring proof of identity with them when collecting their cheque from the Post Office. The proof of identity that customers use when cashing their cheque can be used when collecting it.

The Agency will issue further advice should there be any change to these arrangements.
