18 July 2008 - Woman convicted of benefit fraud at Londonderry court

A woman was convicted at Londonderry Magistrates’ Court yesterday for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Margaret Johnston (22) of Northland Road, Londonderry was given a twelve month conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £40 for duplicate encashment of Income Support cheques totalling £76.

Ms Johnston is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 233 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
