21 July 2008 - Man convicted of benefit fraud at Newry Court

A man was convicted at Newry Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

Joseph Donaldson (55) of Donaldsons Road, Newry, claimed Income Support totalling £3,631 while failing to declare he had capital. He was given a three month custodial sentence suspended for two years and a Compensation Order for £3,118.

This brings to 243 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
