23 July 2008 - Woman convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast court

A woman was convicted at Belfast Magistrates’ Court yesterday for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Maureen Bell (34) of Malfin Drive, Belfast, claimed Income Support totaling £5,816 while failing to declare she was working. She was given twelve months conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £34.

Miss Bell is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 251 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
