22 July 2009 - Two people convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast court

Two people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates’ Court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Seanine Holmes (31) of Cavendish Street, Belfast was given a £300 fine and ordered to pay £43 court costs for failure to declare employment while claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £2,515.

Martin Evans (43) of Fingals Court, Belfast was given 80 hours community service and ordered to pay £22 court costs for duplicate encashment of Jobseekers Allowance totalling £97.

Both are also required to repay the money they wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 250 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
