Two people were convicted at Antrim Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.
Steven Park (43), of Connor Road, Parkgate, Ballyclare, claimed Income Support totalling £25,141 while failing to declare he had capital. He was fined £1,750 and given a two month prison sentence suspended for two years.
Mr Park has since repaid in full the money he wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency (SSA).
Also, Mary Connor (44), of Sprucefield, Antrim, failed to disclose her capital while claiming Income Support to the value of £3,670. She was given a four month prison sentence suspended for twelve months. Ms Connor will have to repay the money she wrongfully obtained to the SSA.
This brings to 178 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
