03 June 2008 - Belfast man convicted of benefit fraud

A man has been convicted at Belfast Magistrates’ Court for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

Charles Haggan (43) of Loopland Road, Belfast claimed Job Seekers Allowance totalling £1,807 while failing to declare he was working. He was fined £300 and ordered to pay £34 court costs.

Mr Haggan is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 181 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
