The development, by Clanmil Housing, will provide 48 three person two bedroom apartments for active older people.
The properties will be built to Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, in effect making them 25% more energy efficient than before. In addition, all will be built to Secured by Design standard, with the recommendations of the PSNI incorporated to ensure that residents feel safe and secure.
Margaret Ritchie said: “This is good news for older people in Lisburn. This scheme will provide 48 state of the art apartments for people over 55 years of age. All will be able to take advantage of an array of energy saving, design and security features.
“Providing more energy efficient and sustainable social housing is the number one priority in the New Housing Agenda. These new apartments will be a valuable contribution to the 1,750 new homes planned for this financial year. In late 2010, tenants can look forward to enjoying their new homes.”
