Latest funding of £10,000 for Coleraine announced by Minister Ritchie
Thursday, 11 June 2009Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA today announced a contribution towards the Local Intervention Fire Education (LIFE) Scheme for young people living in Coleraine.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIF&RS) scheme will benefit young people in the Ballysally and Churchlands areas of Coleraine.
Speaking of her announcement the minister said: “This scheme will contribute to improvements in community relations and help reduce anti social behaviour directed at fire fighters carrying out their duties in this part of Coleraine.”
“We must engage with our young people to help them understand the importance of social responsibility and the importance of the role of fire fighters who are there to serve their community. I am pleased to support this contribution towards this LIFE scheme within this Neighbourhood Renewal area of Coleraine.”
The aim of the scheme is to bring together young people between 13-19 and the NIF&RS in their local area to build mutual understanding and break down community barriers, be they real or perceived.
The scheme will operate in Portrush Fire station commencing Tuesday 16 June 2009 ending with a graduation ceremony on the Friday. A further scheme will run late autumn 2009.
