17 June 2008 - Four convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast court

Four people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Leanne Davison (22) of Forthriver Link, Belfast, claimed Income Support totalling £2,315 while failing to declare she was working. She was given a 12 month conditional discharge.

Geraldine Morris (44) of Falcaragh Drive, Belfast, claimed Housing Benefit totalling £4,813 whilst failing to declare capital. She was given 80 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £115.

Julie Anne Hughes (30) of St Peter's Court, Belfast, claimed Income Support totalling £2,326 while failing to declare capital. She was given a 12 month conditional discharge.

Andrea Marley (22) of Iris Drive, Belfast, claimed Income Support while failing to declare she was working. She was given a 12 month conditional discharge.

All are also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 205 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
