23 June 2008 - Three convicted of benefit fraud at Armagh court

Three people have been convicted at Armagh Magistrates’ Court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Cornelius Nixon (51), of Abbey Park, claimed Income Support, Incapacity Benefit and Housing Benefit totalling £9,063 while failing to declare he was working. He was fined £600 and ordered to pay court costs of £76.

Saoirse Grybauskas (31), of Nursery Mews, claimed Income Support totalling £3,910 while failing to declare she was working. She as fined £100 and ordered to pay court costs of £103.

Tamasine Devine (29), of St Catherine’s Court, claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £4,167 while failing to declare she was working. She was fined £300 and ordered to pay court costs of £55.

All three are also required to repay the money they wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 209 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
