The four advertisements have been designed to highlight the concerns of community safety and have targeted issues including binge drinking and assaults, criminal damage, anti-social behaviour and drug dealing in the local area.
The advertisements will be shown prior to every child and family movie at the Movie House Cinema in Coleraine. The campaign will begin in July 2008 and will run over the summer months.
The minister said: “I am pleased that my department, through the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, has been able to support this project in partnership with the District Policing and Community Safety Partnerships and PSNI. These advertisements highlight the facts and the serious consequences of crime and anti-social behaviour. Screening them in the local cinema will help spread this important message across the Coleraine area.
“Both Neighbourhood Renewal Partnerships in Coleraine are working effectively to bring together representatives from the various statutory and community organisations, together with local residents, to identify and bring forward projects, such as this, to tackle the very real problems and issues they experience.
“I am confident that this project will be a success and one that will hopefully be replicated in other areas.”
The overall aim of the campaign is to achieve awareness and education with children and their parents, resulting in a reduction in the four identified criminal areas of policing.
