16 June 2009 - Minister Ritchie gives support to Enniskillen Neighbourhood Renewal

Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA today announced almost £21,000 to upgrade a riverside path and disused play area in Enniskillen.

Developed by Fermanagh District Council the project will provide a new surface, additional drainage and the trimming back of vegetation along 320 metres of the Riverside Path within Cornagrade and Kilmacormick housing estates. In the same area, derelict equipment and other concrete structures at a disused play area will also be removed and the area sown out in grass. The work will improve the appearance of the area and reduce opportunities for anti-social behaviour.

Making the announcement, Margaret Ritchie said: “I am pleased to support this project for environmental improvements in the Cornagrade and Kilmacormick area of Enniskillen. It demonstrates my commitment to tackling deprivation and closing the gap between those who live in disadvantaged areas and those who do not.”

“The maintenance of a pleasant environment in local housing areas strengthens residents' pride of place and sense of belonging. The rejuvenated pathway and area of open space will be an asset for local residents for many years.”

Investments of £33,000 and £25,000 respectively on improving sections of the riverside path have recently been secured from Fermanagh District Council’s Landfill Communities Fund and the Department of Culture Arts and Leisure. The latest funding announcement by Minister Ritchie will ensure that the remainder of the path is completed.
