Minister and international fund for Ireland announce good news for Ballybeen
Monday, 10 March 2008Government and the International Fund for Ireland have confirmed today their intention to invest over £3 million in Ballybeen, Dundonald.
Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA, Health Minister Michael McGimpsey MLA and International Fund for Ireland Chairman Denis Rooney, pledged their plans for the Enler Project in Dundonald.
The scheme will be situated on the site of the former Enler House which was demolished for public safety reasons. It will provide a modern facility that will serve the entire community regardless of age and deliver day care facilities for the elderly as well as community facilities, retail units and a community recording studio. The estimated cost is £3,300,000.
Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie said: “I am in a position to support this project and commend those who have worked tirelessly and selflessly to see this most valuable scheme brought to fruition. I look forward to seeing the completed scheme in the next couple of years.”
Denis Rooney, Chairman of the International Fund for Ireland said: “I am delighted that the fund will provide financial support of £400,000 to Landmark East towards the development of a mixed use community and retail building complex in the Ballybeen Estate, East Belfast. Everyone involved in the project is to be congratulated for their efforts over a long period of time. Ultimately, the work the Fund is investing in now is part of our commitment to building a sustainable and lasting peace in our society.”
It is hoped that work will begin on site by June, subject to final approvals.
