Ritchie announces over £11,000 funding for Community House in Coleraine

Tuesday, 24 March 2009

Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA today announced a funding boost of £11,163.00 for the refurbishment and fitting out of Milburn Community House in Coleraine.

The project aims to encourage residents from the Milburn estate to make use of the facilities at the Community House. It will attract a cross section of the community through the provision of a number of community outreach clinics and a structured youth programme.

Speaking about the funding announcement the minister said: “This project will provide a welcome space for the residents, both young and old, in the Milburn area. The funding will also enable the re-establishment of the Milburn Over 50’s Club which is an invaluable service provided by this community centre. Residents will benefit greatly from a refurbished, more modern and safe community centre offering a range of services within this area of Coleraine.”

Funding has been secured from the department’s Neighbourhood Renewal Investment Fund.

Commenting further, Margaret Ritchie said: “The Neighbourhood Renewal process seeks to engage all sections of the community. The provision of the Community House and the Over 50’s Club will assist a wide cross section of residents and lead to a more vibrant and stable community.”
