Ritchie enjoys cuppa in new kitchen in Crossgar

Wednesday, 10 March 2010

Social Development Minister, Margaret Ritchie, today raised a cuppa to a Housing Executive kitchen replacement scheme in Co Down.

The £264,000 scheme was also welcomed by Housing Executive tenant, Martha Keenan, who availed of the scheme, and who invited Minister Ritchie to view her newly fitted kitchen in Crossgar.

Speaking at Mrs Keenan’s home in Westlands, Minister Ritchie said: "This is a wonderful scheme which is providing much-needed improvements to homes across

Co Down, for people like Martha who need it most.

"In view of the affect that the shortfall in the housing market has had on housing programmes, this scheme for Co Down is a great way of demonstrating that much-needed work is continuing."

Areas in Co Down targeted by the kitchen replacement scheme include, Crossgar, Ballynahinch, Killough, Ardglass and Newcastle. Work on the scheme commenced in

May 2009 and has since been completed.

Minister Ritchie added: "I hope that Mrs Keenan enjoys her new kitchen and indeed, that all those who have availed of the scheme, are pleased with the improvements to their homes."
