Two Convicted of Benefit Fraud at Newry Court
Tuesday, 16 March 2010Two people were convicted at Newry Magistrates’ Court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.
A woman was given a three month sentence suspended for three years for failure to declare employment while claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £3,842.
A man was given a six month sentence suspended for three years for failure to declare employment while claiming Incapacity Benefit totalling £8,793.
Both are required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
This brings to 94 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
