Fourteen people convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast court
Wednesday, 31 March 2010Fourteen people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates’ court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.
A Belfast woman claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £13,230 while failing to disclose capital. She was fined £300 and ordered to pay court costs of £34.
A Belfast man claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £4,378 while failing to declare employment. He was fined £300 and ordered to pay court costs of £40.
A Belfast woman claimed Income Support totalling £7,131 while failing to declare employment. She was fined £300 and ordered to pay court costs of £40.
A Belfast woman claimed Income Support totalling £3,950 while failing to declare employment. She was fined £350 and ordered to pay court costs of £74.
A Belfast woman claimed Income Support totalling £2,757 while failing to declare employment. She was fined £350 and ordered to pay court costs of £34.
A Belfast woman claimed Income Support totalling £2,046 while failing to declare employment. She was fined £350 and ordered to pay court costs of £31.
A Belfast woman claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £3,981 while failing to declare employment. She was fined £300 and ordered to pay court costs of £40.
A Belfast man claimed Incapacity Benefit and Housing Benefit totalling £7,226 while failing to declare employment. He was fined £200 and ordered to pay court costs of £43.
A Belfast woman claimed Income Support totalling £5,052 while failing to declare employment. She was given 60 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £31.
A Belfast woman claimed Income Support totalling £2,812 while failing to declare employment. She was fined £350 and ordered to pay court costs of £31.
A Newtownabbey woman claimed Income Support totalling £4,297 while failing to declare employment. She was fined £300 and ordered to pay court costs of £43.
A Belfast woman claimed Income Support totalling £3,298 while failing to declare employment. She was fined £350 and ordered to pay court costs of £34.
A Dunmurray woman claimed Income Support totalling £8,473 while failing to declare employment. She was given 60 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £24.
All are also required to repay the money they wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
A Belfast man claimed Income Support totalling £10,352 while failing to declare capital. He was fined £500 and ordered to pay court costs of £28. Mr Quee has repaid all money owed.
This brings to 118 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
