01 May 2008 - Londonderry man convicted of benefit fraud

A man was convicted of benefit fraud at Londonderry Magistrates’ Court today.

Rory Monaghan (30) of Strathfoyle, Londonderry, wrongfully cashed Income Support cheques to the value of £800. He was given a 4 month jail sentence suspended for two years on each offence and was ordered to pay court costs of £64.

Mr Monaghan is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 137 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
