09 May 2008 - Strabane man convicted of benefit fraud

A man was convicted at Strabane Magistrates’ Court yesterday for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

Charles Britton (50), of Gortileck Road, claimed Housing Benefit totaling £7,315 while failing to declare he had capital. He was given a £500 fine and ordered to pay court costs of £43.

He is also required to repay the money he wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 145 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
