28 May 2008 - Ritchie discusses voluntary and community sector issues during Limavady visit

Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA today visited Limavady to discuss issues affecting local voluntary and community sector organisations.

Minister Ritchie said: “I welcome the opportunity to meet with the Limavady Community Forum and other local representatives. I am fully aware of the excellent work carried out by the Forum and its member groups who are working in partnership in the Borough to support the community/voluntary sector both in urban and rural areas. I am particularly pleased that my Department through a range of funding programmes has been able to support projects in the Limavady area making a real difference to the lives of people living here.”

She continued: “One of the key factors in successfully tackling deprivation and assisting regeneration is through a partnership approach and I recognise the important role which the voluntary and community sector has to play in this process.”

During the meeting with the voluntary and community sector organisations, the topics discussed included neighbourhood renewal and community development issues.

During her trip to Limavady, the Minister also visited Sperrin Road to hear about proposals for the area.

Notes to Editors:

  1. Limavady Community Forum (LCF) was officially established in March 2005 following extensive consultation with the community/voluntary sector in the Borough. There are approximately 45 member groups involved and the Forum is working on a collaborative basis in the Borough of Limavady to promote, enhance and support the community/voluntary sector both in urban and rural areas. The Forum is also helping prepare the sector for RPA and the changing funding climate.
