18 May 2009 - Newry woman convicted of benefit fraud

A woman was convicted at Newry Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Kelly Benis (32) of Finlieve Place, Newry claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £2,832 while failing to declare she was employed. She was given a £300 fine and ordered to pay £34 court costs.

She is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 161 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
