23 November 2007 - Lisburn man convicted of benefit fraud

A man was convicted at Lisburn Magistrates’ Court yesterday for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

William Carey (53) of Molyneaux Drive, Lisburn had received Income Support and Housing Benefit to the value of £8,655 while failing to disclose his savings.  He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay court costs of £49.00.  He will also have to repay the money he received to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 369 the number of convictions secured so far this year by the Social Security Agency in its campaign against benefit fraud.
