27 November 2007 - Four convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast court

Four people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Alanna Hindes (28) of Glenrosa Street, Belfast, claimed Income Support totalling £240.00 while working full time. She was given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £34.00.

Stephen Crymble (32) of Grange Drive, Ballyclare, claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit to the value of £2,027 while working full time. He was given 150 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £34.00.

Tracey McAteer (33) of Waveney Park, Belfast, claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £3,760 while working. She was given 75 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £46.00.

Fergal Masterson (50) of Antrim Road, Belfast, was fined £150.00 and ordered to pay court costs of £88.00 for duplicate encashment of Income Support cheques totalling £302.00.

All four are also required to repay the money they wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 376 the number of successful prosecutions this year.
