Ritchie impressed with Canadian 'Super E Housing Programme'
Wednesday, 5 November 2008Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA today met a delegation of Canadian officials to hear about the Canadian ‘Super E Housing Programme’.
The ‘Super E’ is based on the ‘house as a system’ approach with well insulated wall design, superior construction techniques, high performance windows and continuous whole house ventilation, all as major features.
After a presentation on the use of ‘Super E’, Margaret Ritchie said: “As part of The New Housing Agenda I am determined not just to deliver more housing for those in need, but more sustainable, energy efficient housing that will protect future tenants against rising energy costs and fuel poverty.
“The ‘Super E’ Programme can certainly help me deliver more energy efficient, healthy housing and shows how committed I am to seeking solutions right across the Atlantic to deliver the New Housing Agenda.”
The programme aims to create partnerships between Canadian housing manufacturers and British companies, and a growing number of English based Housing Associations are already signed up to the programme
