20 November 2008 - Three convicted of benefit fraud at Londonderry court

Three people were convicted at Londonderry Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Tara Lynn (29) of Grainan Drive, Londonderry was fined £300 and ordered pay court costs of £50 for duplicate encashment of Income Support totalling £26.61.

Martin White (45) of Linsfort Drive, Londonderry claimed Income Support totalling £1,830.90 while failing declare employment. He was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £73. Mr White is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Mary O’Connor (49) of Hollymount Park, Londonderry claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £4,946.18 while failing to declare employment. She was given a two year conditional discharge. Mrs O’Connor is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 457 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
