25 November 2008 - Newcastle man convicted of benefit fraud

A man was convicted at Downpatrick Crown Court yesterday for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

Gregory Parke (38) of Tullybrannigan Road, Newcastle claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £43,818 while failing to declare he had capital. He was given a 2 year sentence suspended for 3 years.

Mr Parke is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 461 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
