Ritchie announces new homes for North Belfast
Wednesday, 11 November 2009Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA today announced the start of construction of five new family homes at Cedar Avenue in North Belfast.
The new development by Ulidia Housing Association will see a former crèche facility transformed into modern apartments, complemented with further building to the rear. Designed to 'Lifetime Homes' standard, the homes can be easily adapted to suit individual residents' needs. All will be built to 'Eco Homes' standard and will incorporate the very latest in energy saving, design and security features.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister said: “This is an area of high housing need and Ulidia Housing Association is to be congratulated for bringing this property back into use to provide high quality, energy efficient homes.
“The delivery of this type of sustainable housing is a key priority for my Department. I know those who come to live here will appreciate the efforts that have been made to create this new housing alongside already existing local infrastructure and community facilities.”
The Minister went on to say: "These new apartments will be a valuable contribution to the 1,750 new homes planned to start this year and residents can look forward to moving in next summer.”
