01 October 2007 - Belfast woman convicted of benefit fraud

A woman was convicted at Newtownards Magistrates’ Court on 28 September for working while in receipt of benefit.

Lindsay Campbell (22) of Kinross Avenue, Belfast, had claimed Jobseekers Allowance of £216.25 while working. She was given a 12 month conditional discharge and fined £100.00. She will also have to repay the money she fraudulently claimed to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 281 the number of convictions secured so far this year by the Social Security Agency in its campaign against benefit fraud.
