01 October 2007 - Crumlin man convicted of benefit fraud

A man was convicted at Antrim Magistrates’ Court today for working while in receipt of benefit.

Anthony Harriott (45) of Laurelvale, Lurgan Road, Crumlin, had received Jobseeker’s Allowance and Housing Benefit Rates totalling £2,768 while working. He was fined £750.00 and given a two month custodial sentence suspended for 12 months.

Mr Harriott will also have to repay the money he received to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 283 the number of convictions secured so far this year by the Social Security Agency in its campaign against benefit fraud.
