01 October 2007 - Newry woman fined for committing benefit fraud

A woman was convicted at Newry Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefit she was not entitled to.

Mary Morgan (56) of Tullyree Road, Kilcoo, Newry had claimed Income Support to the value of £2,164 while failing to disclose her savings. She was fined £250 and will have to pay court costs of £73.

Ms Morgan has repaid in full the money she received from the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 284 the number of convictions secured so far this year by the Social Security Agency in its campaign against benefit fraud.
