03 October 2007 - Two convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast court

Two people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates’ Court yesterday for claiming benefits to which they were not entitled.

Neill Gibson (35) of Blakeley Terrace, Belfast, was sentenced to 200 hours community service for claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit to the value of £2,277 while working.

Kim Andrews (39) of Joanmount Gardens, Belfast, had received Housing Benefit and Income Support of £16,546 while failing to disclose her savings. She was sentenced to 175 hours community service.

Both individuals will have to repay the money they received to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 290 the number of convictions secured so far this year by the Social Security Agency in its campaign against benefit fraud.
