05 October 2007 - Two convicted of benefit fraud

Two men were convicted of benefit fraud at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court today.

George Elder (28) of Queen Street Ballymoney, claimed Jobseekers Allowance totalling £256 whilst working. He was fined £200.

Greer Moffet (43) of Kinneyglass Road Londonderry, claimed £5,486 in Income Support without declaring he had capital. He was fined £100.

Both are required by the Social Security Agency to repay the money that they wrongfully obtained. This brings the total number of successful prosecutions this year to 295.
