08 October 2007 - Newtownards woman convicted of benefit fraud

A woman was convicted at Newtownards Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Cathy Hall (39), of Valetta Park, claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £17,565 whilst failing to declare she had capital.

She was fined £400 and ordered to pay court costs. She also has to repay the money she wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 298 the number of convictions secured so far this year by the Social Security Agency in its campaign against benefit fraud.
