Three people were convicted of benefit fraud at Craigavon Magistrates’ court today.
Dympna Dynes (31), of Carrigart Manor, Tullygally, was sentenced to 120 hours community service for duplicate encashment of Income Support totalling £2,503.
Thomas Cowan (57), of Calvertstown Road, Portadown, claimed £9,372.06 in Income Support and Housing Benefit without declaring he had capital. He was fined £100.00.
Kathleen Meli (37), of Helenswood, Dunmurry, was given a 12 month conditional discharge for claiming Income Support and Housing benefit totalling £37,604 while failing to declare she had capital.
All three are required by the Social Security Agency to repay the money they wrongfully obtained. This brings the total number of successful prosecutions this year to 299.
