16 October 2007 - Carrick man convicted of benefit fraud

A man was convicted at Belfast Crown Court today for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

Stephen Ross (43), of Sunnylands Grove, Carrickfergus claimed £2889 in Income Support while failing to declare he was in receipt of an Occupational Pension.

He was fined £200 and ordered to pay court costs. He will also have to repay the money he wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings the total number of successful prosecutions this year to 308.
