22 October 2007 - Kilkeel woman convicted of benefit fraud

A woman was convicted at Newry Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Teresa Moore (44), of St Patricks Terrace, Newry claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £27,760 while failing to declare she was living with her partner. She was given a three month prison sentence suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay court costs.

She will also have to repay to the Social Security Agency the money she wrongfully obtained.

This brings the total number of successful prosecutions this year to 317.
