23 October 2007 - Two convicted of benefit fraud at Ballymena court

Two people were convicted of benefit fraud at Ballymena Magistrates’ court today.

Elizabeth Dunwoody (55), of Knockan Terrace, Broughshane, had claimed Job Seekers Allowance totalling £2,857 while working. The offences took place between June 2004 and July 2006. She was fined £300 and ordered to pay court costs.

William McNeice (55), of Tildarg Road, Ballymena, claimed Income Support totalling £8,441 while failing to declare he had capital. The offences took place between September 2000 and July 2005. He was fined £200 and ordered to pay court costs.

Both people also have to repay the money they wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings the total number of successful prosecutions this year to 320.
