30 October 2007 - Two convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast court

Two people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Maureen Mulhern (45) of Madrid Street, Belfast, was found guilty of working while in receipt of Income Support. She was sentenced to 200 hours community service and will have to repay the £4,137 she wrongfully claimed to the Social Security Agency (SSA).

Glen Hunter (28) of Forthriver Parade, Belfast, wrongfully cashed Income Support cheques totalling £331.00. He was fined £300.00 and will have to repay the money he received to the SSA.

This brings to 333 the number of convictions secured so far this year by the SSA in its campaign against benefit fraud.
