31 October 2007 - Housing executive board members announced

Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie today announced appointments to the Board of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.

Mr Brian Rowntree and Mrs Ann Henderson have been appointed for a further term as Chairman and Vice-Chair respectively. The appointments, for a term of five years, will take effect from 5 November 2007.

Three board members, nominated by the Northern Ireland Housing Council have also been appointed and will serve from 5 November 2007 until 4 November 2008.

They are Councillor Jim Speers MBE, Councillor Eamonn O’Neill and Councillor Jennifer Palmer. The members will receive £6,605 per annum for their services.

Notes to Editors:

  1. Mr Speers is a member of the Ulster Unionist Party and holds no other public appointments.
  2. Mr O’Neill is a member of the Social Democratic and Labour Party and is currently a member of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission for which he receives £10,000. He is also a member of the Eastern Health & Social Services Trust for which he receives no payment.
  3. Mrs Palmer is a member of the Democratic Unionist Party and is currently a member of the District Policing Partnership for which she receives £2,400.
  4. The Board is responsible for the efficient, effective and economic delivery of the Housing Executive's services. It determines policies, within its overall aims and objectives, and makes decisions on operational and organisational strategies. The chairman reports to the Minister for Social Development on the organisation's achievement of its objectives and targets.
  5. The appointments were made in accordance with the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland’s Code of Practice. A selection panel considered the suitability of all candidates and the final decision on the appointments rested with the Minister for Social Development.
