17 October 2008 - Woman convicted of benefit fraud at Londonderry Crown Court

A woman was convicted at Londonderry Crown Court yesterday for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Sinead Doherty (29) of Glassagh Park, Londonderry, claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £26,755 while she was working. She was given a combined order, supervision of a Probation Officer for two and a half years and 100 hours community service to run concurrently on each count.

Ms Doherty is required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 393 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
