03 September 2007 - Minister visits Clarawood estate in east Belfast

Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie today continued her series of housing related visits when she met with residents and tenants of Clarawood Estate in East Belfast.

Ms Ritchie met with the local MLA, Councillor Robin Newton and members of the Clara Park and Way Tenants’ and Residents’ Association. She also called in with a couple of local residents to hear their views on life in the estate and find out more about their housing needs.

The Minister commented: “I have been keen to visit communities across Northern Ireland to hear at first hand about the issues that relate to my Department’s responsibilities. Clarawood is a thriving and popular estate, and the Residents’ Association is to be congratulated for its hard work over nearly 50 years to ensure the best quality of life for local people.

“Since 2000, almost £3 million has been spent by the Housing Executive on a range of improvements in the Estate and it is very pleasing to see for myself the success of this work. Clarawood sets a fine example and I do hope that the area continues to be just as successful.”
