25 September 2007 - Ballymena benefit fraudsters convicted

Three women were sentenced at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court today for claiming social security benefits they were not entitled to.

Bertha Hayes (53), of Parkgate Road, claimed £4,508 in Income Support and Housing Benefit without declaring she had capital. She was fined £300.

Jolene Craig (27), of Kintyre Park, claimed Housing Benefit and Income Support totalling £2,182 while working. She was fined £300.

Mary Quinn (38), of Cairns Road, claimed £8,044 in Income Support and Housing Benefit without declaring she had capital. She was fined £750.

All three are required by the Social Security Agency to repay the money that they wrongfully obtained. This brings the total number of successful prosecutions this year to 278.
