25 September 2007 - Two Belfast people convicted for benefit fraud

Two people were sentenced at Belfast Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Susan Dunbar (23), of Derwent Street, Belfast had claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £1,085 while working. She was fined £120.

James McAllister (31), of Ballymurphy Road, Belfast claimed £1,968 in Income Support without declaring he had capital. He was fined £175.00.

Both are required by the Social Security Agency to repay the money that they wrongfully obtained. This brings the total number of successful prosecutions this year to 275.
