11 September 2008 - Dromore woman convicted of benefit fraud

A woman was convicted at Newry Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits while she was working full-time.

Simone Knocker (33) of Mossvale Terrace, Dromore claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £8205.41 while failing to declare she was working full time from May 2005 to July 2006. She was given a two year conditional discharge on both counts.

Mrs Knocker is required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 330 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
