18 September 2008 - Three convicted of benefit fraud at Londonderry court

A woman who claimed Jobseekers’ Allowance, Income Support and Housing Benefit without declaring capital was convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast Crown Court yesterday.

Mary Loughran (61), of Dawson Street, Belfast, had falsely claimed a total of £12,758 during October 1996 to February 2006. She was given a suspended sentence for 12 months.

She is also required to repay the money to the Social Security Agency.

This is the 342nd successful prosecution for benefit fraud so far this year.
