A man who claimed Jobseekers’ Allowance and Income Support without declaring capital was convicted of benefit fraud at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Geoffrey Stewart (46), of Wilson Crescent, Ballymena, had falsely claimed a total of £18,369 during March 1999 to January 2006. He was given a £200 fine and ordered to pay court costs of £88.
He is also required to repay the money to the Social Security Agency.
This is the 347th successful prosecution for benefit fraud so far this year.
