13 November 2008 - Man convicted of benefit fraud at Newtownards court

A man was convicted at Newtownards Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

Stuart Hamill (27), of Windsor Avenue, Newtownards claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £4,514 while failing to declare he was working full-time. He was given 50 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £63.

Mr Hamill is required to repay the money he wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 445 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
